Sustainability and ESG are terms which are widely used, but are still lacking a consistent definition. The terms have become highly politicised and there continues to be more discussion and effort put into the arguments for and against their adoption rather than the effort required to provide consistent and comparable reporting frameworks.
Omtero has chosen to use “Sustainability Reporting” as a descriptive term for our products based on the simple fact that the markets we cover have in the last two years converged to use the “sustainability” term in the name of the legislation which covers the GHG reporting aspect our product is primarily focused on.
Most of the G20 economies include GHG reporting in their legislated or planned sustainability reporting requirements. The GHG reporting aspects are often the single biggest component of these requirements and the ones which will potentially require the most effort on an annual basis.
The Omtero platform includes guidance and tools to assist with some of the additional sustainability reporting components, and will be specific to the requirements within each jurisdiction. Our approach is not to simply provide another generic GHG reporting calculator.
